Indonesian-made Vespa Smallframes

Dan Motors Indonesia produced its own Vespa variants under licence from Piaggio, in Indonesia. They launched the Vespa PTS in 1976 to deal with increasingly fierce competition in the local motorbike market. Visually, the PTS models resemble the Italian Vespa 50 Special, with its square speedo, rectangular handelbar switches and distinctive horncast. At first this Vespa was equipped with a 90 cc engine, but in 1978 Dan Motors released an additional variant of the PTS with a 100 cc engine.

There are several characteristics that distinguish the two Vespa Small Frame models. The first is in the speedometer section, On the PTS 90 cc the highest speed indicator is only 80 kmh, while the P100TS is marked up to 120 kmh. Then on the Vespa PTS 90 there is a chrome emblem that reads "Vespa Special" mounted on the back above the rear light, while the PTS 100 rear emblem reads "100 special", and at the bottom of the left luggage box there is a "P 100 TS" emblem. Finally, if the PTS was produced before 1980 it uses a rounded handlebar lock, but after 1980 the cover is oval.

The PTS was produced in Indonesia from 1976 until 1984.
