Taiwanese-made Vespa Smallframes

Three different brands applied to Vespa clones in Taiwan. Paijifa, Taiwan Vespa Company and PGO.

Firstly there was Paijifa, who produced a 100cc Smallframe clone called the 100 (or 1.00) SE. Very little about these seems to be known. Pajifa 100SE Pajifa 1.00SE headset

PGO also made smallframe and PK clones, and after the licence expired, they made a considerably revised version of the PK and a crazy mashup called the Fancy 50. PGO 100 D The PGO 100 D - a traditional smallframe.

PGO Fancy 50 The PGO Fancy 50 - basically nothing like a Vespa, except that it appears to use the Vespa PK legshields and headset.

Then there was the Taiwan Vespa Company. I think this was set up by Piaggio as a separate company to PGO, but I'm not sure. These differed in many ways from the Italian models - Indicators (on the headset originally, then PX style on the legshield), SS180 style headets, dual seats (even on the later PK range) all served to differentiate the models.

Taiwanese smallframe models were also sold in Japan for many years until production of these models stopped. Below is a Japanese advertisment for the products of the Taiwan Vespa Company, featuring the 50SS Classic, the P90S and the 125ES. That white bike in the centre is a real oddity, as it appears to be the front end of a smallframe with the rear section of a PX. It was advertised as an automatic version of the 50SS or 125ES, but it never actually went into production, and its only appearance was at a motorcycle show.
