the vespa font

OK, it's not the script one. That's pretty tricky and very hand-drawn. Somebody had a go (Vespa Script font) but it's not really usable.

When I made this site I needed a Vespa font. So I decided to go for the 70's block font, as it was easier to draw. So I went through my fonts and decided to redraw some variant of Clarendon Extended Bold to match the model emblems I had pictures of. I called it "Primavera", stuck it on this site and it's all over the web now. Awesome.

The actual Piaggio/Vespa font is almost certainly Volta Std Bold, and was designed by Bauer & Baum in the 1956, Also sold as "Fortune". They too started by redrawing Clarendon.

As it turns out my Primavera font looks a hell of a lot like Volta - the thinner stroke on the lower case "e", for example. Not surprising, really.

Primavera, is available here as a Truetype font for old-school-Macintosh (which goes to show how old this site is) or Windows / OSX. I've finally made it into a webfont too, what with it being 2025.

For completeness, there is also a Vespa icon/dingbats font here

vespa smallframe music

Yes, that's right. There are Vespa smallframe songs. The most well-known is Lunapop's 50 Special. which was a big hit in Italy and was rerecorded in Spanish and English. A band called The Mudsharks recorded a song called My Primavera which appears on their album Crackin' Porcelain
