7. Removing the gears.

Removing the gears on a smallframe is necessary so you can replace the shift cross.

You'll need your external circlip pliers. Expand the circlip to remove it and then remove the thin spacer ring.

You should now be able to remove the gears. Each cog should only be fitted one way so make a note of the way they come off. Don't worry too much about this if you forget. They should be evenly spaced when they go back on and should not have any free play when you put them back on. There's only really one way to put them back on so this is achieved. When you have removed them you'll see this:
